About RadicalX

RadicalX Global Tech Virtual Internship is a program that provides students and recent graduates with the opportunity to gain practical experience and develop their skills in the tech industry. he internships are designed to provide participants with hands-on experience in their field of interest and to help them develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their careers.

Introduction

I interned at RadicalX with a team of 7 on a video conference interview app. My main roles were to assist the UX design team in conducting user research and developing the user flow and journey. However, we worked collaboratively to create wireframes and create wireframes and prototypes, and design the final product. Through my work on this project, I gained valuable insights and experience in the UX design process.

Goal

The goal of the app is to provide a seamless and intuitive experience for both interviewers and interviewees during the video interview process.

Research

One of the first tasks I was involved in was conducting user research to understand the needs and pain points of both recruiters and job applicants in the video conference interview process. We conducted surveys and interviews with recruiters and job seekers to understand their preferences, their current process for scheduling and conducting interviews, and the challenges they face.

Based on our research, we identified some key insights:

  • Recruiters often have to schedule multiple interviews and find it difficult to keep track of them

  • Job seekers find it challenging to prepare for remote interviews and often experience technical issues during the call

  • Both recruiters and job seekers prefer a platform that is user-friendly, easy to navigate, and customizable.

With these insights, we began to develop the user flow for the app.

User Personas

To create user personas, we need to understand the target audience for our app. Our target audience includes recruiters, hiring managers, and candidates. We will create three user personas, each representing a different type of user.

  1. Recruiter: This user persona represents recruiters who are responsible for screening candidates for job openings.

  2. Hiring Manager/Admin: This user persona represents the hiring managers who will ultimately decide which candidate to hire.

  3. Candidate: This user persona represents the candidates who are applying for the job opening.

User Stories

Based on the user personas, we can create user stories to define the features and functionalities of the app. Here are some examples of user stories:

  1. As a recruiter, I want to be able to schedule interviews with candidates so that I can manage my time effectively.

  2. As a hiring manager, I want to be able to view and compare the interviews of different candidates so that I can make an informed decision.

  3. As a candidate, I want to be able to easily join the video interview without any technical difficulties so that I can make a good impression.

User Flow

User Flow.jpg

From our research, we developed a user flow that reflected the needs and pain points of both recruiters and job seekers. Here are the steps involved in the user journey:

  1. Recruiters create an account and schedule interviews

  2. Job applicants receive an invitation to the interview via email

  3. Job applicants prepare for the interview by reviewing the job description and company information

  4. On the day of the interview, job applicants join the video conference call via the app

  5. Recruiters and job applicants conduct the interview using the app's video and audio features

  6. After the interview, recruiters and job applicants provide feedback via the app

The information architecture defines the organization and structure of the app's content. It helps to ensure that the app is easy to navigate and information is easily accessible. Here is a sample information architecture for our app:

  1. Home: This is the landing page for the app, which displays the user's upcoming interviews.

  2. Interviews: This section displays all the interviews scheduled by the user.

  3. Candidates: This section displays all the candidates invited for an interview.

  4. Recordings: This section displays all the recorded interviews for later review.

I worked with the UX design team to create low-fidelity wireframes and then moved on to high-fidelity ones once we had feedback from the stakeholders. We then created interactive prototypes to test the functionality of the app and gather feedback from potential users.

Design: Based on the feedback from the wireframes and prototypes, we created the final designs for the app. We made sure to use a clean and modern design language that was easy to navigate and customizable.

The design includes the following features:

  1. A customizable dashboard that allows recruiters to view all scheduled interviews and add new ones

  2. A comprehensive job description section that includes information about the company, the job, and the interview process

  3. A user-friendly interface that makes it easy for job applicants to join the video conference call

  4. A customizable feedback section that allows both recruiters and job applicants to provide feedback after the interview

Conclusion:

By working collaboratively and leveraging each team member's skills and expertise, we were able to create a successful and user-friendly video conference interview app for job seekers and employers. The app's design and functionality were informed by user research, and the team worked closely together throughout the design process to ensure that the final product met the needs and preferences of its users.

As an intern, I gained valuable experience working on a video conference interview app. By participating in user research, developing the user flow and journey, creating wireframes and prototypes, and contributing to the final design, I learned a lot about the UX design process and the importance of user-centered design.
